Today we went round the horn, Cape Horn. The captain decided that the weather would be kind to us and so we went round Cape Horn Island, which meant that we went past Cape Horn. Then it was into the Beagle Channel and on towards Punta Arenas. Cape Horn is famous for its bad weather, but for us it was very calm. The weather we had leaving Southampton was 10 times worse.
Battle of the Sexes was a farce today. The men were losing by 30 points. Then they announced that the bonus round would be another musical intros round, and each question would be worth 100 points. Lots of the men complained and the two hosts acted like petulant schoolchildren. ‘All right, that’s it, we’ll stop here’. The women then complained and the deputy director stepped in and said that it was his hosts quiz, they could run it how they wanted and he backed them all the way. Phil and I got up and left as did quite a few other men. I’ve attended my last BotS for this cruise. Obviously they’re not bothered about what the passengers want, they seem to be an irrelevance. For the first time ever, I wrote a letter of complaint to the Cruise Director.
Because we are so far south the hours of daylight stretch well into the late evening. As there were only four of us for dinner, we were sat at a window table. This meant we saw a pod of the black and white dolphins (or possibly porpoises) swimming close to our window. On our last cruise in this neck of the woods, we saw lots of them.
The quiz in Champions was about British history. We surprised ourselves by scoring 13/20. We scored 15/20 in the Syndicate Quiz. The winning team scored 16.
