Woke up before lunch today :D I'm getting good at coping with the alcohol and less and less sleep every night :/
Had a cheese and ham baguette at our guesthouse for breakfast, western food Is the only thing we can stomach in a morning with a hangover... Khmer food is all fried!!!
We went to the Grande Palace today to say hi to the king, we go way back ;) my shorts were too high though, your knees need to be covered up in respect.... So had to roll them all the way down and walk around with them hanging below my waste, not a good look! Hence, the all the photos are of waste height up!
Katerina our Russian friend had told us not to bother going to the palace, and that it was boring... We still have to see it for ourselves though! It's huge! Your not allowed in though you can only walk around, and no photos allowed!! I know that doesn't usually stop me when we're in the museums, but security were guiding every crevice like ninjas! :(
It's beaut though all made of gold and I can definitely imagine myself on that throne, being wined and dined! That is the life I was supposed to live after all ;)
But after you stand and stare at this very royal looking building for 5 minutes, your done! Seen it now! :( everywhere we go to we're to hot and tired and can't really be bothered. The usual phrase is, 'Is this it, or is there more?' but then when we're home and we review the photos they are pretty impressive!! :)
After the palace you walk around the rest of the grounds, there's a few temples... We managed to finally get a photo with the monks!!! In the background though, they don't know they're being papped ;) and there's a model of the Angkor Wat temple, it looks as impressive as the real thing!! Clearly a 100,000th of its size!!
Then there's a museum part where they have all the royal family jewellery and costumes on display... They have designated colours for everyday of the week!! Again, no photos allowed but I managed to get one or two on the low down ;)
Didn't get to see the king though... he must have been in the shower or something I guess? Il Facebook him later!
After that we got a tuk tuk from the palace to the central market! Cheapest was $2... We thought that was expensive, and tried haggling more, but then it actually took like 15 minutes! Not bad then ;)
We had a quick look around, annie swapped her top from the other day and bought pants, I'm watching my pennies today ;) we bought our Phnom Penh bracelets though for $1!
We got back home around 5:00, and chilled before getting ready at 8 to go out... We met the usual people in the usual places, I did however change my drinks I never realised they served Malibu! In Cambodia! Drank too many Malibu cokes and ended up in heart of darkness yet again... Like every other night of our stay here...
We really can't be bothered to go out but we need to make the most of being here, so we force the first drink down and then the rest go down a treat :)
