Here I am in Paris overlooking the Place de la Republique about a block from our apartment sipping cafe in MacDonalds. Yep... it is time for true confessions. We can only access unlimited internet in public parks (near the downtown) or, as it turns out, in the hallmark of Amarcan traditions.... good ole Mac's. So, it's early and a little nippy, where do you think two old travellers would hang out?
Confessions out of the way I must say it is great to be wired! Yesterday was an amazing day topped off by successfully skyping our daughter back home and cut and pasting my blog entries!
So, what did we do yesterday? Lets just say we began our day at the Arc de Triumph. Pretty shabby huh? It was sunday and turned out to be the day of the Paris marathonl. When we arrived the streets were still blocked off with cleaning crews ... well... cleaning. That meant we had the road to ourselves (with a few hundred tourists) and no cars. We even got an opportunity to prop up our camera a couple of times for timed shots with no fear of it being stolen. The windy climb to the top of the structure was well worth it. What a spectacular view and what an amazing city. (think I've said that before)
From there we walked the Champs-Elysees all the way to the Louvre with a few side stops at the Grande Palace, the Petite Palace, the Place de la Concorde, an Egptian obelisk over 3000 years old (not stolen... this one was a gift aparently), the Jardin des Tuileries and many beautiful spring flowers.
At the Louvre the Information desk was actually open which is where we found out about wifi. Amazing. The problem we had is that we are not staying in a hotel with a nice person at the desk there to answer my stupid questions.... and our language skills amount to directions, food and a few other necessities which means we had no place to get information.
So today we are heading out perhaps to Sacre Coeur in Montmarte or maybe the sewer tour.. still haven't done that one.
Got to get out in that sunshine.
