The bus into town was easy - just wait at the bus stop. Tried a bit of hitching whilst we were waiting. Hat on/off - me/Liz hiding did not produce the goods, I even had a go at hitching a police car (they just reciplicated the hitching action).
The bus for no apparent reason just stopped half way to town and the bus driver started reading a news paper. Eventually the driver got out of his cabin and went up to an Aboriginal person "YOU out NOW". The Aboriginal eventually decided that he had to go but vented his anger by spitting at the driver now back in the safety of his cab. The aboriginal went on to bash the side of the bus and the police were called but luckily the bus carried on it's journey.
We tracked down our friend Simon, in the backpackers and were introduced to nine of the people that travelled with him from Perth. We caught up over a jug of beer and soon were heading to the Vic that some skantily clad females were promoting.
The night was good, getting into the spirit with dancing on tables to some dodgy pop stuff. Simon is a hard rocker albeit with a short haircut now. Travelling is all about compromises, at home you can control your environment going to places that play your type of music and having friends with similar tastes. Here and especially off the beaten track places you simply have a take it or leave it decision. Being with a group of people dancing on the tables, do you sit in the corner, or do you as Si, me and Liz did - join in.
Strangely I was drunk but did not have any trouble getting in to places where ID is always checked.
Early morning the place was full of mostly drunk females carrying their high heel shoes - perhaps Darwin is normal after all.
Spiers filled me in on the going out experience - always bring ID. The doormen are over zeallous in trying to find drunks, one guy who happened to be having a good time was asked to leave for being drunk despite not having a single drink. Later on they must just give in going by the number of wobbily females.
