Is this the way..? Well apparently it is. We are back in Texas only this time in the north, also known as the panhandle. Got out of Tucumcari and said farewell to New Mexico and Howdy to Texas. Left Houston at about 10 and drove up through some really pretty hill country and farming towns. Arrived in Austin about 2 and checked into the amazing Austin Motel. Then wandered through very boho Soco neighbourhood and snacked on corn-dogs and beer. Later wandered up to 6th St for a couple of ales. Dad took us on a trip to Brazos Band State Park where we bravely faced up to wild swamp dwelling alligators. Was feeling brave until one crept from the undergrowth and sauntered across the path about ten feet behind us. Yikes! Then on down to gulf coast for po'boy lunch, drive back through Galveston and had barbecued Cowboy Steaks for dinner. Totally Texas!

After a long, slow train journey we finally pulled into Houston about 10.45. So happy to be greeted and picked up by Dad and Cindy, whisked back to the house for beer and sandwiches and a great nights sleep. Headed to the heat if downtown Houston today. Phew!
