A very exciting day.
Left our hotel on Sunset about half 7 and took a bus, a metro and a walk to get to Eagle Riders bike rental. Bought helmets, signed the papers and were taken out to see 'the hog'. A big ol' silver Electraglide. Packed it up and hit the freeways, on a mission to get out of Los Angeles. Despite my best planning we managed to take a wrong turn at every opportunity. But my trusty driver managed to get us back on track.
Rolled on past San Bernardino and up into the mountains, getting hotter as we left the coast behind. Stopped for a soda at a McD's in the mountains and filled our camel-back-packs with ice water.
As we got back on the road I realised that mine was leaking and dripping ice-cool water down the back of my jeans. Still it was quite nice as we drove into 102 degree temperatures so I just went with it.
Reached Victorville and Mark took a stretch of old 66 then back on interstate to Barstow, a nice old style mining town. Gave the Hog a drink and powered on to Ludlow. We checked into the only motel and went to a great 66 diner for oor tea! Taking an early night, watching Harry potter on the telly and listening to the freight trains rumble by. Loving it!
