Here we are back in Bangkok for the last time on this trip, our third time all together. We left behind our somewhat run down and damp accomodation in Sihanoukville for the bus station. One thing we have come to expect is the unexpected and boarding our bus to Phnom Penh was no different.
The bus arrived and very nice it was too, a double decker with T.V and reclining seats and a bathroom. As usual we waited around to watch our bags get on the bus but they all sat in a pile in the sun, then the fun started.
Three small Cambodians began loading scooters onto the bus and after 45 minutes there were 5 on the bus including 1 in the toilet!!!!! This caused a German lady to go mental because the toilet was not available for the 4 hour journey, we were quite pleased as they are usually really bad.The Cambodian guy she was yelling at gave her a blank look and walked off!!!!
Once on the road I had my doubts whether the driver had ever driven a bus like this, to be fair the whole journey went smooth till we got about 5km outside Phnom Penh and he decided to try and plow over a car and then decided it might be a bad idea. We could see this all unfolding before our eyes but it was too late for my head and shoulder and they became good friends with the faux leather seat in front!!!!
Glad to be off the bus we found a friendly moto driver to take us to the hotel and after a shower and food it was bed as it was ANOTHER early start today.
Up at 5.15. Got ready and waited in the hotel lobby for our taxi to Phnom Penh airport. Got to the airport in one piece and went to pay the driver $7 for the ride we only had a $10 bill and he had no change all the shops were shut so he ended up with a good tip (are taxi drivers the same the world over????)
Our Air Asia flight to Bangkok was only 55 minutes and we were back on familiar ground, Thailand for the 3rd time although first time at the new airport!!!
Once again we did battle with a taxi driver and yet again we paid over the odds. I always knew that walking was better for you (Mel might disagree!!!) But certainly better on your pocket!!!! I think I might have found my new career though as I am sure all cab drivers must be fairly well off!!!
Today we have the luxury of a day sat around in a hotel watching T.V and reading probably sounds boring to most people but is heaven for us as no movement is needed!!!!
Tomorrow morning we leave for the big city life for a few days and Hong Kong. Neither of us are quite sure what to expect but we are hoping to get some inside tips off a mate of mine.
See you in Hong Kong.
Lots of Love
