Had a really relaxing day yesterday as we have pretty much covered all the Bangkok sights in our 2 visits here and we spent the day round the pool reading and catching up with diary entries (rock and roll)
But there was a purpose for this we were saving ourselves for the theatre, yes last night we visited the theatre and watched an amazing show. Our chauffeur collected us and we had these giant armchair like chairs to sit in.The minivan was like a rock stars with plush velvet seats, in fact they were even better than the ones in the theatre. In with our entry price there was a buffet included and buffet and backpacker = eating too much!!!!
There was a huge selection of food including Thai, Indian, Chinese, Western plus fruit, cakes, tea and coffee. Not to be rude we tried a bit of everything and were ready for a sleep afterwards. We walked out into a courtyard and there was pre entertainment with dancers in fancy costumes plus a mock Thai village that you could walk around and see handicrafts and different style houses plus taste more food!!!!!
At 7:30 the doors opened and we had to surrender our camera as no photography was allowed. The show was amazing and there were dancers and flying people, plus elephants and goats running around in the crowd. A lake sprouted from the floor and they even had a fountain and explosions. The purpose of all this was to tell the story of Siam and the anciant kingdom of Lanna to illustrate early trading and show "The 3 realms of Buddhism" and ending with the different festivals that they have here in Thailand.
The show is called Siam Namarkit and if you get to Bangkok check it out.
Today has been another of those must do job days where we have booked onward accomodation and flights for the next few weeks. We are just waiting to meet up with Christina (Mels friend) later for a drink before leaving North tomorrow for Ayutthaya (sic) the old Khmer capital of Thailand for a few days.
Tonight I could have been at home on my Xmas doo with the lads but i'm stuck in Thailand having a great time drinking 60p beer instead of 2 quid beer a bargain.
Lots of Love
M & M
