Well what a jammed pack blog we have for you today, after rising at 6am on a Sunday we were whizzing through the streets of Bangkok and then out on the highway to Kanchanaburi and the war cemetery to commemorate the soldiers that lost their lives building the Death Railway to Burma, there are over 3,000 graves in this one cemetery.
It was then onto the bridge and when I say the bridge I mean The Bridge over the River Kwae (Kwai) we got to walk right along to the other side and got some nice photos too.The bridge was a major engineering feat when built and while stood on it you thought about all the men that lost their lives while the railroad was under construction. We still had more train action to come and took a ride on the Death Railway for a good hour. The train was packed with locals and tourists and we were fortunate enough not to get a seat, this meant that we got to stand in the stairwell entrance to the train. While the train whizzed along we hung out of the train as it went over rickety bridges with big drops and it was a great feeling. The train was old and it felt like a scene from the great train robbery!!!!
After a very short stop for lunch it was onto the Tiger Temple, this is where the monks look after stray tigers as Kanchanaburi is close to the Burmese border. They are so used to human interaction as they are reared by the monks you can walk right up to them and even stroke them on the belly as long as you have no red or orange on (difficult if you are ginger!!!)
We both got some fantastic photos with the tigers and the day yet again had passed by so quickly, it was then a long 3 hour trip back to Bangkok, we have been totally Thai since arriving in Thailand so we treated ourselves to an Indian meal. (1 starter, 2 mains, 2 garlic naans and 2 beers all for a fiver.)
Not sure on what we are doing tomorrow but we are having a lie in till at least 8am after today's early start!!!!
Lots of Love
