This was our first official day with no real plans, appointments, reservations, or anything like that. We slept in a little, took our time getting ready in the morning, and it was glorious. We saw the Spanish steps, which were basically a really big staircase jam-packed with thousands of people, so I couldn't even get a decent picture of these stairs. But trust me, they look like stairs.
We also went to the Trevy Fountain, which is a must-see during a trip to Rome. Unfortunately it's under the biggest restoration project ever, so we couldn't even really see it among all the scaffolding and construction workers. They did have a little section of water set up though, so I got to do the classic "throw a coin in the Trevy Fountain for good luck" you've seen on every movie that features a character going to Rome.
We wandered around a bit, but didn't find much we wanted to do. Checked out the really expensive road in Rome, with all the Versace, Prada, Gucci, Expensive-Italian-Brand-Name stores. I felt too poor to even walk outside the building.
Beyond this, we went to a few different restaurants in the area, had a drink at one, paid our bill, and went to the next. Bar hopping, with-parents-in-Rome-during-the-afternoon style.
For dinner we had authentic Italian pizza, some more delicious gelato, and went to bed early, like real grown ups.
