Today was mostly spent at The Vatican, checking out Vatican city and St Peters Basilica. I don't have too much to say about this tour. Our guide, Susanna, was wonderful and informative. A trip to Rome isn't complete without coming here. The art is actually breathtaking - especially Sistine Chapel. Susanna gave us a bunch of informaiton about specific things to look for while we were checking everything out, and I was so glad she did because I could spend some time picking particular things out, rather than simply thinking it was pretty artwork. We saw tombs of many popes from history, and were directly above the tomb of St Peter.
The afternoon was fairly lowkey, mostly hanging out around the hotel. Around 5 I left to go see some of the guys I know from Lethbridge, while Dad and Marlene went for authentic Italian pizza for dinner, and Ian relaxed.
Hanging out with the guys (Mike, Hawk, and Beau) was so much fun. It was a different side of a Europe trip to see, and probably what my next one will be like. They're staying in hostels and mostly getting to know local places, while I'm currently doing more of the touristy stuff. We met up with some girls they met from the states while they were in some other city I can't remember. We all spent the night wandering around Rome, going to a couple clubs, meeting random people, etc. It was so much fun, although I drank a disgusting amount and paid for it the next morning. One of my favorite moments was the big group of us crashing on a huge green space at like 230am, we were all hanging out and singing and talking, and had the Coliseum right behind us, all lit up. So cool.
