Mal Beaton
Woke early and strolled down to Pinocchio's in the Desert Eatery. Here you can get all you can drink champagne with every meal (yes including breakfast) for $3.99. All the tables around us had people drinking cocktails or champagne, not for me that early though. I stuck with the breakfast burrito and it was huge. Breakfast over, it is off we go to Desert Hills and Cabazon Premium Outlets, they are actually two outlets located right next door to each other so I will sometimes mix the names up. I should explain a bit about Palm Springs and why we like coming here instead of staying in LA. Palm Springs is located in a desert valley about 160km from LA surrounded by high rock mountains (Mt San Jacinto has a sky tramway up to it) and desert. Surrounding Palm Springs are thousands of the windmill electricity generators. Headed to the outlets at 10 am and the temp was already 36C, apparently it got to 42C (109F) today. The premium outlets are well worth a days visit when in the USA, you get lots of bargains with stores like Oakley, Tag, Columbia, Nike, Calvin Klein, Coach Handbags, Jimmy Choo, North Face and many more. These outlets are huge and would take most of the day to do all of the shops. There is construction underway to add more stores which are supposed to open early next year. We gave up about 2pm as it was packed and people started to get pushy probably a bit grumpy in the heat. We headed over to Morongo Indian Resort and Casino for a Mexican lunch before heading back to town. When you arrive in LA I find it easier to jump in the hire car and drive direct to Palm Springs, it is freeway direct from LAX to Palm Springs. There is reasonably priced accommodation and not as fast paced as LA. You can get your shopping out of the way then continue on in your travels. After a few drinks
