Up early and we head downtown for breakfast. Found a cafe/bar called pinocchio's. Looked very busy so must be good. Once we ordered we noticed that all the people near us had champagne (note 10 am on a Sunday morning). They have an unlimited champagne with breakfast option for $3.95. We should have stayed here another day so we could sample this offer. On the way out of Palm Springs we took Eileen (Karens mum) up to see the Mt San Jacinto Cable Car. It goes from the desert floor up the top of Mt San Jacinto, a height of about 9000 ft. We didn't go up the cable car this time but did it last trip. Well worth the trip.Another hot day, didnt quite match yesterdays heat. Back to Cabazon Outlets, checked out the Oakley store, most items at least half price of aus. Grabbed some jeans and shirts from Calvin Klein and some other heavily discounted goodies. We didn't hit the road until after 1 pm. The intention was to head to Fresno but left our run too late so planned to hit Bakersfield and stay the night. We were amazed at the size of the wind farms, they were stretched as far as the eye can see. Palm Springs to Bakersfield saw us skirting around LA and San Bernadino, drove past the entrance to Edwards AFB which is (was) the alt landing site for the space shuttle. Interesting drive through the desert and mountains. We then started seeing hundreds of oil derricks, they were all over the place with power poles surrounding them. Got to Bakersfield about 5.30pm, maybe we saw the wrong area but it looked like trailer park central so we decided to keep going. Someone mentioned a new Indian Reservation Casino up the road about 80k's, They are normally a good option as they don't have the US taxes. Got to Porterville and found this casino did not have a hotel, did not serve alcohol and you couldn't drive there but had to use their transport, stuff that. We headed to Walmart to grab some vittles, 750ml Jack Daniels $15.97, one litre of Jamison Irish Whiskey $25. no wonder they have a lot of drunks here. Two litre plastic bottles of spirits for what we would pay for a 750ml bottle. we grabbed dinner from Denny's (hamburgers, nacho's etc, basically unhealthy), booked into Holiday Inn Porterville for a ridiculously low price and now for a good nights sleep.
