Gran Well done on finishing it! Enjoyed it to the very end. Thanks.
re: Writing about my journey home after being back for two years!Gran Bit of a risk packing food for 2 days in NT heat! A very memorable, but exhausting, last day... a bit hard to grasp that the Big Adventure was virtually over.
re: Twin Falls and Jim Jim FallsGran Again -- so nice to be able to visualise some of the places you visited. Did you see the hotel shaped like a crocodile at Jabiru?
re: Aboriginal Paintings and waterfalls!Gran GLAD you chose the tour, as I'm sure you saw more in the available time that way.
re: Litchfield!Gran There's LOADS to do in Darwin!!! Some of it's free, though I guess most is quite costly. Did you see the "Tour Tub"?... a little on-off bus that did a circuit round all the interesting sites. Lots more to do when you go back....
re: Needing sleep!Gran Congrats on your skill in German! Bet you never thought you'd use it in Oz.
re: My last night out in Australia :(Gran Shame you were able to see so little of Katherine... the surrounds really. The Gorge is "GORGEous"; we saw the kayakers there.
re: Exploring KatherineGran Oooh... I envy your Ghan journey. Had hoped to travel on it from Alice to Coober Pedy, but timing was wrong. It had to be Greyhound instead.
re: Getting on the Ghan!Gran Amazing what different experiences you had from us in the Red Centre, yours geared to youth of course. No climbing King's Canyon for us, or sleeping under the stars... but we DID see Mount Conner on the bus back to Alice from Uluru. The Aboriginal stories are fascinating aren't they? Did you see an example of "Neville the Thorny Devil" (as pictured in yesterday's blog)? We had a good laugh about that name! But we didn't actually see one.
re: Climbing Kings CanyonGran A shame activities in Alice were too costly, as there's so much of interest there. When you're rich again... :)
re: Doing absolutely nothing!Gran How old were the cabin attendants on your Qantas flght? We thought all the oldies must be used on their domestic flights! What happened to your iPod? Lovely to be able to visualise you on Anzac Hill.
re: Off to the heart of Australia!Gran Sounds like you need a movie camera to catch those frisky fish under water. You'll have to swap stories with Jeff, who went diving on the Great Barrier Reef too (but not at night). Did you know he's "certified"?
re: More diving!!Gran I reckon the best way to see sharks must be when they're at the other end of a rope, from the safety of a boat! At least you see more than two gleaming eyes that way. I live and learn!... I'd always thought a stingray killed Steve Unwin, but I see (online) that a bullray is part of the same species, and it WAS one of those that dealt the fatal blow. A bigger fish would make more sense.
re: Diving....even at night!!!Gran "Am I crazy?"... DEFINITELY! But very courageous too. The video had me holding my breath, even though I already knew you'd survived. The jump from the platform looked fine to me, and no indecent boob exposure was visible. Would have loved to hear the conversation with the people on the viewing platform, and was amazed you actually chatted whilst in that situation! To do this and the sky dive, so close together, was either very brave or utterly mad!
re: Sky diving and bungee jumping in the same day...am i crazy!!!!Gran Talk about building up the anxiety! What a shame the sky dive had to be cancelled, and you were kept hanging on, wondering if.... Well done to Laura on winning the Cape Tribulation trip! I couldn't imagine what the game entailed, but guess she thought the embarrassment worthwhile in the end. No comment on the Gilligans comp.! Never in my life have I been on such a "normal night out".
