Date: 7th August 2011
Place: Cairns
Weather: rainy
Got up at 6am to get ready to be picked up at 7am to go sky diving J. It was still raining when we got up so I was a bit worried about whether or not that would stop them from doing it. Turns out it does and we kept on getting texts saying that it has been put off and they will contact us in 2 hours when they re assess the weather.
Well this kept happening from 7am until 1am when we decided to head to the market in town for a while. There was so much fruit there it was awesome and it was really cheap so we had a bit of a stock up and munched on some of the free samples J. Since there was still a chance we could go sky diving at 3 we head back to the hostel to see if they would pick us up. They didn't and it had been cancelled for the day.
I gave them a ring to book us into the one tomorrow but they had to work it around our bungee jump. They said they would call the company for us and let them know to pick us up from their office rather than the hostel. So the plan for the next day was to be picked up at 9.30am to go skydiving and then as soon as we get back to the office after that (at around 11am) we were being picked up by the bungee jump people to go bungee jumping. I was a bit worried about having a heart attack!
Since we hadn't been doing anything all day, Laura actually persuaded me to go for a run with her. She is a fitness freak and goes running basically everyday. Well I used to run everyday but I haven't done in almost 4 months now so I struggled!! And because I had eaten only a few hours before I kept getting stitch! Not good! I must get back into fitness when I get home, but not before then as I am on holiday J.
That night we went to the Woolshed again and met some of the people from our bus and took a girl from our room. I was on a table of Germans. Everybody I meet in Australia is German. It's not really what I expected! But it's nice because they all talk English for me even though there was like 6 of them.
Amy and Emily then showed up who are from the Whitsundays trip and we had a couple of free drinks together as it was ladies night. We had (cheap) champagne served to us by a topless hunk at the bar, it was very nice. At the Woolshed they always have competitions on and they are normally played in teams of countries. I persuaded the Germans to go up and join in with that nights game; Vibrator racing "/.
To begin with they had to blow a cup down a ramp and who's ever got to the bottom first went into the competition to compete for their country. Laura won hers so was competing for Germany. She then had to lucky dip for a vibrator in a bag which she was very embarrassed about. They told her to name it so we decided to call it Geoffrey in honour of the coconut.
The competition basically then was the same as with the glasses but they had to race the vibrators down the ramp by blowing them. There were a few rounds with a few different countries and Laura won!!! She was given the options of a free bungee jump, snorkelling trip or Cape Tribulation trip. It was so lucky because she was literally about to book a Cape Tribulation trip so it worked out perfectly.
We all left the Woolshed after that and head over to Gilligans for a dance. When we got there they were having their own type of competition. It was meant to be a wet t-shirt competition but it was more like if you lose the most dignity you win! The first contestant was wearing a tiny little white top and the tiniest g-string ever. The next girl wanted to top that so basically took everything off…and it went on like that until it ended up with two girls on the stage making out basically naked. All just for a bungee jump. It was awful.
I liked it when the music just came on though and I finally got a good dance session in. There was a guy laughing at me because a guy doing really weird dancing was trying to dance with me and I was attempting to ignore him. It was hard though when he started grabbing my hand and spinning me around. Funny though and I think he got the hint eventually. There was a girl as well who really really wanted to kiss this guy who just wasn't interested and was really trying to pull away. Haha it's so funny to be back on a 'normal' night out in a western country!

Gran Talk about building up the anxiety! What a shame the sky dive had to be cancelled, and you were kept hanging on, wondering if.... Well done to Laura on winning the Cape Tribulation trip! I couldn't imagine what the game entailed, but guess she thought the embarrassment worthwhile in the end. No comment on the Gilligans comp.! Never in my life have I been on such a "normal night out".
