Day 15
We were woken at 4 in the morning by the drunkards rolling in from their Saturday night. The same oaf that woke us was making our breakfast. We couldn't complain as they were pancakes...a treat for us. We wolfed them down and rushed to get ready, then power walked to the train station; due to the train only leaving every hour. We arrived with 3 minutes to spare.
It took 2 hours to get to Katoomba, and by Australian terms is right on the doorstep. Just as we arrived the heavens opened, and we had no waterproofs, we should've thought about this as we were going to a rainforest. We looked in second-hand stores and cheapo shops but all Lorna could find was childs raincoat with bunny's on the back. It fir ok except for the arms which were too short. So we just decided to chance it.
From the town centre we got a short bus to Echo Point; the main viewing area for the Three Sisters. The Three Sisters are an aboriginal landmark and are predominent from the rest of the view. We took some photos and decided to head towards the giant stairway for a closer look at the Three Sisters.
We went down around 200 steps out of around 1000 and had lunch. We were debating whether to walk down all of them but saw too many tired people and chickened out. We were glad we had lunch there though as the view was out of this world.
We climbed back to the top and headed towards the cableway to go down into the rainforest. It was around 45minutes walk to get round. On our way stopped at various lookouts and at Katoomba Cascades.
We took the Cableway down, took about a half hour walk around the rainforest. Lorna insisted reading every sign to get our moneys worth even though 5 were about the same type of tree. Lorna was that knowledgable she made a speech much to Als amusement.
We took the worlds steepest passenger railway at 52degrees and 80metres long, back to the top.
We then got the bus and train back to Sydney, where we took a quick stop to update our blog.
