I’m so sorry it’s been so long. Honestly I’m tired when we get back to the hotel. Each day is a lot of walking and sightseeing. They have I’m assuming wonderful public transportation including metro, buses, trains etc but we have not stepped on one of them. Our hotel is near the Spanish Steps which puts us in walking distance of quite a bit. Don’t get me wrong, you need to be a serious walker to do this as it’s about 20 minutes to the steps if you find it in the first shot and up to an hour or more to some of the other places which all span out across the city in a variety of directions from our hotel. Also that hour does not include the 10-40 minutes we spend walking around and around a place trying to find it. Getting lost is an art and we’ve mastered it although we are actually recognizing certain corners now. We’ve also run into some gems along the journey especially for lunch. Little hole in the wall places selling pizza by the slice. Anywhere from 3,50/4 euros a slice or pizza weighed then charged. Some places have seats others just high top tables you stand at while enjoying your food. We’ve had some great food for dinner at sit down restaurants as well. The Lasagna and artichoke/ricotta ravioli last night was delicious. Wine accompanied each of these meals naturally.
We’ve seen the Colosseum, Narvona Piazza plus more piazzas than I can count, Trevi Fountain (photo) the Palladium, a disturbing crypt displaying hundreds of skeletons in an artistic way. Think floral patterns attached to the ceilings made up of scapulas and vertebrae, light (candles at the time now wired with electricity) fixtures, arches and more using skulls, fibulas, and pelvic bones. They also showcased full skeletons in Capuchin monk robes praying, walking, resting etc. Not sure what we were thinking but it was interesting as well as disturbing. There are currently 24 Capuchin friaries in Canada with 104 monks. Something to think about. We also visited many churches and museums as well as walked to the train station twice. The second trip we bought our high speed tickets to Venice leaving on Monday. One more day and we’re off.
