We took the bus into Venezia today. Super clean and fast at 1,5e each. It dropped us off at the station on the island. Now where to go. No matter we’ll just walk and that’s what we did. Over bridges, down narrow alleyways, in and out of fun shops and across many raised panel walkways as flooding is an issue. Fun places with all shapes of masks, Murano glass and lots of Italian leather shops everywhere. Gondolas cruised down the canals and we just enjoyed the day with no rain in site. No big plan other than to make it to the Grand Canal and San Marco basilica. We did both. Lunch was local shop with an interesting menu and when we indicated interest, a nicely dressed Italian man, spoke to us in Italian and yes I’m making an assumption that he was but I digress. We were shown to our table in the front window and our order was taken by the waiter. We both ordered a pasta dish with seafood and a half liter of wine to share. That’s when our classic Italian waiter disappeared and I can’t talk about what happened as it might not come across right and I have to get it past Jocelyn. Anyway first course was Delicious. Second course not great honestly in my opinion although Bill liked his calamari but oh well. We paid the bill and moved on. Walked more and enjoyed the sites then made our way back to the bus station. I love Venice. More tomorrow.
Next Day
We once again took the bus into Venice. No plan once again other than to start our walk in the opposite direction. We did just that. Not long into it Bill’s depth perception issues got the better of him. He misjudged the curb and as he had his hand in his pocket his problems began. All I heard was Oh No, I ripped my pants. Wait what I really heard was directly from our adorable granddaughter Mason when she tripped. Oh No Grandma me hurt meself! Grandpa used the exact plaintive voice to let me know there was a problem. Weird but I kept laughing as he was fine except for his underwear peaking through the leg opening in his pants and all I could picture was Mason. New plan let’s buy him some pants. Not easy in the land of masks, Murano glass and leather. We might have bought him leather pants but he said no. Multiple alleyways, bridges crossed and many steps climbed later we came across a men’s wear shop. Sometime later he is sporting a very classy pair of Italian pants complete with a loop on the front of his pants for that pokey thing on your belt buckle to slip through so your buckle is always centered. Those Italians! Bill did not like the price but I suggested that the belt buckle thing was worth at least 5 euros and pants only cost 95 euros. They really are nice so worth every euro and at least now his underwear is not showing. Both of us fully clothed we continued on our day. Another great one. Tomorrow we’re thinking of jumping on a train to Milan.
