We didn't have much planned on Saturday we had a leisurely breakfast and watched a bit of tv when we decided on the spur of the moment to go to Dover. I wanted fish and chips so off we were to see the white cliffs of Dover and eat some fish and chips by the English sea side. It was about a two hour drive we were driving purely the satnavs on the phone. It was so funny as we got to the port where the ferries cross the sun suddenly came out after a rainy day. Maybe the sun doesn't like England and prefers France that is the conclusion we came to. We drove up to the Dover Castle but it was closed so we went on to the White Cliffs. It was freezing. The wind was blowing so hard we thought we might get blown off the cliffs. We had a short walk and watched a ferry come in an off load the cars and trucks. It was too cold outside to stay out long so we had coffee and milky tray chocolates in the car instead and watched the ferries from inside the car. Daniel forgot the teaspoon so the only thing we had to use to stir the coffee with was a carrot a few passers by did chuckle when they saw us stirring coffee with a carrot. After our short walk we decided to drive the down to Hastings. We drove towards Hastings and found the scenic route sing post it was around 4 in the afternoon. Both our mobiles have died on us so here we are in the south east of England driving on road signs. So we winged it! We took the coastal route down to Hastings it was very curvy with no road signs to show the 90 degree turns or any street lights. The sea there is a bit rubbish it looks like dirty water that's a bit choppy and of course a pebble beach. Daniel says it is most probably the worst coastal road he has ever seen there is nothing to see and the sea is block off by n big wall for 90% of the way. We did drive through Rye which looked like a lovely village. Hastings reminded me a lot of Brighton. We had dinner at the White ….? Daniel had the plaice and was very impressed with it as it was fried in a buttery sauce with chives and didn't taste at all fishy hie hie hie it is also on the sustainable list of fish for England. Everybody in the restaurant was talking about the Hugh's Fish Fight. The food was sooo fresh there even the salad was delicious. I peppers were sweet and tomatoes juicy. I think they might get there produce from France as they are so near the ferry crossing.
After dinner we went to the Bingo Hall and played Bingo with all the old ducks. It was so much fun. I had a pink dabber and Daniel a green one it looks a bit like a highlighter but it just dabs a dot over your number. We played the grand national where you play the whole of England and even people in Nice. It was about half way that Daniel wipped his hand up he was convinced he had a full house. These prizes are going for £1000. The guy came over and said Oh false claim and Daniel is like no he gives the bingo card and the claim card to the guy. Turns out he had 1 row hie hie hie poor Daniel was so embarrassed and of course I thought it was so funny. A few minutes later the same thing happened - people seem to take bingo quite serious as they all looked over as if to say 'yeah right'. The guy came over again and guess what Daniel won £30. He got two lines. We were so chuffed with ourselves. The following day he bought us Ice Cream with crackling with the winnings.
The journey home took a bit longer then expected it was past 11 o clock at night and took round about 2 hours to get home. We didn't have any satnav and there were roadworks. Poor Daniel did all the driving that day. It was such a fun spur of the moment day. Totally not worth a trip wouldn't recommend it but so much fun.
