The Raging Thunder coach dropped us right outside Gilligans hostel which is situated in the centre of Cairns. I had never seen pictures of it before but it's known to be THE hostel to stay in...
Literally couldn't believe my eyes when I walked into reception, the place is HUGE. Helen and myself booked extra nights for the end of the trip so the plan was stay here 3 nights, do the Cape Tribulation trip for one night then back to Gilligans until the 6th of February when I take my flight to Darwin.
We checked into room 105 which was an 8 bed dorm. The rooms and en-suites are so lovely! We had a massive balcony and the air con was dynamite haha. I managed to do something to my shoulder at the rafting so trying to climb onto the top bunk and make the bed with one arm was GREAT FUN!
Helen and I went a walk to see what was around and ended up at a little block of "Night Markets" so we had a traditional Chinese massage (where we got absolutely battered might I add, haha) and a self serve Chinese take away..... We were in heaven!
Tuesday the 28th I got a phone call from the company we were doing our Scuba Diving trip with on the Wednesday, to say they were rearranging to the Saturday because of the weather - wet season meant there's a cyclone due!
So I set off to do some shopping and ended up in a lovely salon getting my hair coloured :) (worst backpacker ever! I was supposed to renew my Medicare and go to the doctors about my shoulder!).
Had a big night out at the famous Gilligans bar and partied until 6am. We were in a BRAW state the next day.... Just in time to pack for Cape Tribulation - where the Reef meets the Rainforest :)
