Pulled up at the bus station which sits on a very beautiful harbour with very beautiful boats and yachts sat on it.... It was only 9am and it was scorching! At the point I already understood why Lesley wanted to live there, never mind staying there for several months!
We were staying in Nomads but couldn't check in until 1pm. There were no shuttle transfer buses provided by the hostel so it was going to be a long walk...... So we got a taxi haha. Flash packers!
We had arranged to meet up with Steve and Louise from our Fraser Island trip so Danny and myself went to the pub for a few ciders with them. Magnums and Beach bars sat right on the Main Street and done drinks deals. We also had to check into ABC travel to pay deposits for the boat we were going on for the Whitsundays trip.
That night we decided to have a BBQ up at Steve and Louise's hostel (just along the road at Base) so we got food from the little super market. Most hostels depending on location provide BBQ areas or the local parks provide them - it's well good!
We were boarding the boat at 2.30pm so we checked out. Nomads at 10am and headed along to ABC with our luggage to store for the 2 days we were away. We only needed day packs for the trip again but they had to be zip less (cause some sort of bug would live in the zips? Don't ask me what one....). Helen and myself went for "morning tea" at the Village cafe and she also had breakfast there, it was lovely!
We picked up alcohol on the way to the boat (you were limited to a 30 pack of beer OR 1.5 litres of spirit....) and walked around a boardwalk to get there. Only took about 15 minutes and it meant we walked all round the harbour side which was beautiful.
Once we all boarded the boat you had to remove your footwear and leave it at the back of the ship and you only got them when you were leaving the boat. We got shown to the rooms which were in 3 sections across the base of the boat. Danny, myself and Helen were sharing again; Helen and I took the top bunk which was a double bed and Danny had the single below. The rooms were quite small but they had a mirror and air con so it was decent compared to some hostels! We had a safety briefing with the Deck hand Shane and then a brief on the diving you could to with Thor.
We stopped at Hook Island which is situated between the two largest islands on Whitsundays. This is known for its best snorkelling and diving spots. We stopped here for the night and got to swim around and jump off the boat (which I was scared to do but eventually done!!! Yay!). We did stop by Haymen island which is the only place in Australia to have a 6 star resort! Loads of famous people have stayed there :)
Next day we got up at 6.30am for breakfast then headed over to Whitsundays National Park; Whitehaven beach. We were taken in from the opposite side of the island so we had a 10 minute walk through bush and rainforest to the main lookout point. It was so so beautiful, there are no words to describe Whitehaven beach... It's straight off a postcard! Unbelievable scenes! Honestly hand on heart do not think I will ever see anything like that ever again.
We walked down to the actual beach and oh my god it's probably the most surreal sight I've ever clapped eyes on. My photos do not do it justice at all....
We spent a good amount of time in the water, getting group pictures and general fannying around!
Next, we had lunch then set up for diving and snorkelling at Blue Pearl Bay. This was another beautiful location popular for diving. I didn't dive, I did get into a wetsuit and head out on a boat to snorkel but I couldn't bring myself to do it....
The crew had taught the emergency drill so when the alarm went off, Helen was just out the shower so I was absolutely pissing myself at her trying to get up to top deck in her underwear, the crew were shouting MOVE MOVE MOVE and she was like I have no clothes on! Thankfully it was just a little practise to show you what happened but they didn't tell us that until later.
That night was party night, so we had dinner and got ready. The crew provided two boxes of dress up clothes and said dress ridiculous as you could then played different games. We stayed up until 3am chatting to everyone.
On the last morning you could go snorkelling again but I was asleep on the top deck (We were up at 6.30am again and after the 3am finish I was super tired haha). After that we had hot dogs and headed back to Airlie Beach.
We got used to life on the boat very quickly so we were so so sad when it was over. There is nothing like what we say on the Whitsunday Islands - I only wish I could have seen all 74 of them! The Atlantic Clipper is also known as the "party boat" and it has been given some other names but I must say the crew were absolutely amazing. It's not a party boat like in Greece or Spain. They take your safety very seriously and make you are having fun second to that. I would recommend this boat to anyone and everyone!
We checked back into Nomads to see we were sharing a room with 4 of the girls from the boat - Abby, Kim, Liv and Lucy. We were so happy! It's way easier sharing a hostel with backpackers you have spent time with (easier to trust them and your belongings around them) and we were all going to the big after party that night so we decided to have a little pre party.
Helen and I went out for dinner to the Village Cafe again. We didn't realise that the menu we had ordered from was called "Hot Rock" so our food came out raw and we cooked it ourselves. I was pretty horrified at first cause my tuna steak came out raw then the hot rock followed haha. It was such an awesome experience!
Back at the hostel we all got ready, had drinks in the room (which isn't allowed as the hostel has a bar but we sneaked it in) then headed to meet everyone at Airlies little club called Phoenix. It had cheap drinks and great music! We later ended up at Boom on one of the crews suggestions and regretted it - completely different vibe their but we stayed for a while then headed back to the room.
It was another late night which made us sleep in.... We woke up 40 minutes before the bus was due! Helen and I don't exactly pack light so I was literally throwing things in any bag.... Bus ended up being late though. Typical!
Next stop...... Magnetic Island :)
