Happy Australia Day!!!! Well, I'm sat on a bus, I'm just off a ferry.... So it could be happier haha.
The last greyhound took us from Airlie to Townsville ferry terminal and from there we had to check in and board the ferry which would take you over to Magnetic Island. It only took about 25 minutes and it was a lovely trip.
We got off the ferry and onto public buses, it was only $1.80 and it dropped us right outside our hostel - Base. We were looking forward to staying there as we had heard Base in Maggie Island was the nicest Base in Oz!
Loved it the minute we arrived, the 'Island Bar' was sat right at the sea and the rooms were like little triangle huts haha. The humidity is insane this far up Queensland, everyone warned me but feeling it and constantly sweating is crazy!
We were given free dinner and breakfast vouchers as part of our check in so we had dinner together that night (burger - awesome!) but I ended up going to bed early. I was still severely hungover which made me even more emotional than I normally am..... Some days Living The Dream you really just want to be able to see the people you love. And sometimes it's a bit overwhelming moving from place to place, your head can't keep up. Sounds like I am just being pathetic but it's happened to so many people. It's horrible to see and it's horrible to feel but we just have to remind ourselves we are doing what thousands don't have the balls to; we are out here with no plan and not a clue. But not all who wander are lost :) I ended up trying to update my blog and completely passed out - woke up at 3am lying on top of my phone and my iPad, surprised I've no cracked the bloody things!
We had one full day in Maggie Island so we decided to make full use of it. Through reception I arranged for us to hire a car from Topless Cars - little pink and white "Barbie" cars! It was only $106 from 9.30am until midday the next day including insurance.
Our friends Steph and Jamie got one too and we set off to Horseshoe Bay. We seen water sports - tubes (kind of like the donut rings that get attached to the back of a speed boat and pull you along) for $20 a go! So Danny and Jamie went 1st, I went on the speed boat to take pictures. Then Steph and I went...... Oh my god, such a laugh!!! Steph screamed her head off all the way and i couldn't do anything for laughing Hahahaha plus I couldn't see a thing cause the sea water kept going in my eyes. Going to upload videos off it, it went so fast! Turned out the couple who ran it stay at the Roadhouse I worked at in Springsure twice a year :)
From there we done a 4km walk to an old Fort that was used in the war. The view was beautiful.
We also went to Bungalow Bay Koala Village. For $21 we got entry in to see a show about cockatoos, bearded lizards, snakes, baby crocodiles..... All of which we held! For an extra $14 we got to hold a koala and it included a printed photograph. It was such good fun! I now want a pet bearded lizard (one was called Barry haha) but the snake was horrible. Glad I held it though - fear faced and all that but still, yuck.
We went to the shops with some other girls from our hostel and got BBQ food, there was a BBQ spot about a 5 minute drive from our hostel. It was beautiful, again right by the sea. We had drinks that night in the bar and headed to bed.
Now we are on our way to Mission Beach. Bit annoyed though as we feel Peter Pans has sort of conned us with our booking. We wanted to do the full moon party in Magnetic Island but they have stopped them until April, the travel agent had said the hostel would do something for us instead but we are in fact travelling all day. Not to worry, we will make up for it when we eventually arrive..........
Happy Australia Day wooooooo!
