Once again, time has completely flown by.
Leaving Casino was hard, i spent a lot of time wondering if i had done the right thing, but the carnage of the last 3 weeks was completely worth it!
I got a lift to Brisbane from one of the guys in Casino, Patchy. Actual godsend since i had decided to take EVERYTHING with me which meant barely my clothes fitted in my backpack never mind anything else...
Checked into Base, in what could only be described as the room from hell. Smelly, no place to put belongings.... thankfully there was a nice English guy called Will - off we went to the pub! Good old Zi bar of course.
That night i met back up with Kim, her friend Clare and hit DOWN UNDER (yay) and ended up meeting a ton of Scottish people - 2 being from Dundee, Marc & John. So weird being back in civilisation and hearing all these Scottish accents - the Scottish banter is SECOND TO NONE!
Next day Barry arrived from livingston (he had spent a week in Sydney 1st) and we all gathered back together for Kims birthday. Dinner at The Grand Central Hotel (awesome), drinks and Dunder bar of course.
Pretty much spent the whole of my time in Brisbane partying.... i think i stayed in about 6 times?! I caught back up with my friend Jenni's mum - she had a lovely BBQ at her lovely house, met some more of her friends and her husband too. Its nice catching up with people you know, especially seeing how they live here in Oz.
Barry ended up leaving for farm work and Kims contract ended with her work so it was back to being Brisneyland twins - inseperable! She had rented a nice wee room off a lovely lady in New Farm. Although it was a 30 minute walk to it, it was over quickly and took you through Fortitude Valley where i still hadn't been out yet - this is where all the clubs and bars were.
I booked the Steve Irwin Australia Zoo and an Abseiling trip for Kims birthday present.
Of course we ended up partying until the wee small hours of abseiling day, i also had to move rooms in the hostel (pain in the arse when Base does this and it happened to me 4 bloody times!) meaning you have to check out at 10am and back in at 2pm. I should point out in this time me & Kim lay in the TV room of the hostel like homeless children with bed sheets over us....
Later we set off to Kangaroo Point, a beautiful part of Brisbane. It had a sort of look out cliff area but the company we were doing the abseiling with was based down a million steps at the river underneath the lookout. In all honesty, when i booked abseiling... i genuinely thought it was going to be off a wall. Had i realised it was going to be OFF KANGAROO POINT LOOKOUT CLIFF - 18 METRES HIGH...... i would have probably given it a miss. We arrived a little bit late due to taxi drivers in Brisbane being a NIGHTMARE. The group we were doing it with were all kitted out - you were given a helmet, harness and glove. You are told to lean back with the rope held tightly behind your bum so you can feed it through, you were to keep your legs straight and heels first. I cannot begin to describe to you how HORRIFYINGLY TERRIFYING it is to try and suspend yourself off a cliff - leaning back with your legs straight out in front of you! Everyone was terrified. One of the little girls who done it slipped as she was hanging her heels off to first go over the edge and ended up hanging upside down! Kim backed out and let other people go before her.... me! I had to literally force myself to do it. I just didn't really look down (haha) and the whole time i was shaking like hell! It took what felt like ages to get down too.... I am very very proud of both me and Kim for doing it - i don't care what anyone says... you'll be hard as nails until you are hanging off that cliff! It was an amazing venue though and we got some amazing pictures.
That night we stayed in as the bus to the Zoo was at 7.30am. Its about an hour and 20 minutes North of Brisbane. We took a little picnic (food is RIDICULOUSLY over priced) and sat and had it on one of the benches in the zoo. The minute you walked in there were staff standing with various animals/birds so you could get pictures with them - pictures with your own cameras and theirs which i thought was great! We got photos holding a baby alligator, standing with a parrot and there was a koala too but too many kids were running around it and upset it!
Theres a massive park you can walk through that has Kanagroos and Wallabies just walking around free. You can feed them, clap them, get pictures with them.... its so amazing!
Theres a Koala sanctuary where you can clap a Koala, the one we seen had a tiny little baby too, cute. You could feed the elephants (apparently you got covered in snot though so we gave that a miss haha), there was a tiger show which was amazing and made me want to do one of the "Take a tiger a walk" experiences but they were all booked out in advance.
We also done the crocosaurus show - the show that Steve Irwin used to run and star in at the zoo most days. Its now taken over by his wife, daughter and son. It was really awesome, and all in good humour too.
Theres also a massive part of the Zoo called Africa - reminded me of Madagascar - which had giraffes, rhino's and zebras. Theres another massive area for all the fan mail sent in on Steve Irwins death. Its all really lovely how they have kept his name along with his family going. All in all, a super tiring day but worth every single penny!
In terms of work i had a trial at Down Under - that i had hassled the manager for about a month - then had to chase him to find out what was happening with it as staff told me i was on the rota, assistant managers told me i only needed a contract..... to then be told i would have to do another trial. So i started looking for other work and Kim and myself ended up with a Outback Roadhouse job! We leave tomorrow! thanks to Patrick at Travel Bugs for that :) Everything happens for a reason....
We had a bit of a scare as well, Kim had an infected bite that started tracking up her arm. A trip to the doctors lead in a mad dash to the hospital where she got kept in over night and put on a drip :( probably one of the scariest moments and totally crap not being able to do anything to help! We were supposed to be going to a Broncho's game that night but instead Kim had to stay in Short Stay Unit :( i got to stay until 11.30pm though and the staff were amazing! She got out at 8am the next day and given antibiotics so off we went - out in Fortitude Valley! Amazing night at RG's and the Empire Hotel (beautiful place!!!!).
We also had a day trip to Surfers with the 4 Dundee boys and our mates Liam (our besty, likes to quote Mean Girls and sing Susan Boyle haha) and a few others. It was absolutely baltic but good to be at the beach for the afternoon drinking and laughing in good company.
I'm once again sad to leave Brisbane, however my livers about to pack in, i have put on about a stone from all the Pie Faces and McDonalds i eat when i am drunk and my bank balance.... wow practically bankrupt! But thanks to Ozzy taxmen i am getting a $1900 rebate! WOO HOO!
Onto the next leg of the adventure with my West Lothian twin, Kim. Its odd how she stayed up the road from me, we never spoke.... but now we are here in Oz, we finish each others sentences and share the same mental/daft/funny opinions on everything! two peas in a pod!
