Friday - Started with a cookery class that involved a visit to the market. We then made Fish Amok, Fried Spring Rolls, Beef Loc Lac and banana pud. The first three were great and the pudding wasn't bad. I was also given a cook book that will enable me to cook at home for the next year!! It was great I would really recommend anyone coming to SE Asia booking one.
In the evening we went to the circus. Not I hasten to say an English type circus but a Cambodian one which involved dancing and acrobatics. It is actually a school that was started just after the troubles to help heal children by using the arts. It now teaches dance, circus tricks, art, music and all other forms of art. It was very good and well worth a visit.
Saturday- New Years Eve - Just can't believe that 2016 is coming to an end!!
We started with a Tuk Tuk tour that included the Bamboo Train and Banan Temple. I enjoyed it just as much this time as I did the first time. We went a different way so instead of the Winery we saw some villages and how the fishing villages turn into farming villages when the river starts to go down. Banan was as peaceful and beautiful as I expected.
A walk around Battambang's pagodas filled the afternoon.
New Years Eve ended with a walk to the Riverside Balcony. A lovely old building overlooking the river from which you can see the sunset whilst eating delicious pizzas. Sadly it was cloudy and the kitchen was closed!!!!
We ate in the Dragon and it was just what we needed. A walk around Battambang was interesting as a market had sprung up selling just about anything but especially mattresses. We saw a union Jack one being carried head height through the crowds so they were being sold. At midnight there were fireworks, beer and a band playing Happy Birthday to you. Great New Years Eve.
