Happy birthday Mum!! (Debs) hope you had a great day - we didn't even have phone signal to text!! Sorry!
RIP B.B King!
The first job of the day before leaving for Fraser was to pack up all the food and drinks for our group. It soon became clear that we weren't on the same wave length.... Us four take 3 boxes of goon... THEY take nothing! When the 4x4 arrived, the road trip started with Matt jumping in the drivers seat (he was like a child on Christmas day!) and Char, Tom and Amber squashed in the very back seats because THEY get car sick!
After a 10 minute ferry ride the beach drive began, with banter flowing over the radios between the 4 car convoy and lead driver 'Muzza'. Within 10 minutes we had seen our first dingo. Fraser Island is home to the purest breed of dingo in Australia so the whole group got very excited upon sighting! Once the dingo was out of sight (they can be very vicious) we stopped for an aboriginal bush tucker trial....we found 'pippies', watched them try to bury themselves and then ate them! They tasted similar to cockles.
After naming the car "Sandy" the next stop on the agenda was Lake Mckenzie, a beautiful fresh water lake, white sand, clear water....and a strong cold wind! But that did not stop us having a dip! We just stayed chest deep under! The drive back allowed Matt to feel like he was on Top Gear, extreme 4x4 off road driving! Later on in the drive, the conditions on the beach became dangerous meaning the professional drivers needed to cross the deep creeks, entering the ocean.
Rice stir fry for tea, the portion sizes made it clear, it was US 'Vs' THEM!
ENGLAND 'Vs' GERMANY.... Who knew what was going to happen! Our group consisted of 5 English and 3 Germans. They did not understand rationing and the conservation of energy STILL.
With our new slogan 'Couples are cool too!' flying high, the four of us hit the goon! Events of the night:
- Sitting around the camp fire
- Making friends over a game of 'Ring of Fire' - Matt lost and had to drink the 'dirty' pint
- Char and Amber danced the night away in the disco
- Bumped into Baz (Our Dutch room mate from Noosa) again - then he disappeared... Leaving his hat!
- Matt made friends with an aboriginal guy
- Matt, Tom and the boys got attacked by an owl
- Worked our way through 10L of goon
- Went to bed in our tent - literally a tent, no mats, no pillows
What a fabulous day and night!!!!
