Uncle Brian's Fun, Falls and Forest Adventures..... Our trip of the day definitely lived up to its name! Our faces hurt from laughing ALL day long!
On booking this trip, we didn't really know what was involved! But wow.... What a fun, awesome day! On meeting our driver Sid we didn't not know how hilarious one guy could be. With his smooth Terry Wogan-esque commentary and super dry humour the day involved such jokes as referring to groups of aboriginals that we passed as Jackson 5. It is hard for us to explain all the events of the day as there were so many but here we go....
- After driving round a housing estate for 10 minutes wondering where we were going we found 'Pretty faced wallabies'. Sid is a very knowledgable guy and we found out.... Wallabies don't sweat, they stick their tongue out to release heat. Their ears move front to back to listen for danger and they hop as they can't move hips independently.
- Sid had planned our trip to absolute precision, with a sound track for every moment:
* 'The Australia Song' we will attach a link to this it made us laugh so much! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=eNEeq5qGh8I
* 'Sugar' as we passed the sugar plantations.
* 'Jurassic Park' theme tune as we passed scenery
* 'Walking on Sunshine' as we completed a bus Mexican wave.
* 'Barbie Girl' as we all turned, knelt on our seats, facing the back of the bus to pretend we were on board a roller coaster!
* 'Everyday is a winding road' as we took a 900ft decent that had 237 corners in 19km.
* 'Brown Eyed Girl' as he passed round tambourines for everyone to play.
* 'Grease' medley
* Starwars dramatic music as we quickly circled the carpark at speed in front of the main waterfall. Groups of OAPs stood and watched by the side of their bus in amazement!
All of these songs were played whilst the lights in the bus flashed and Sid was breaking and swerving to the beat of the music (in a very safe way....he pulled over to let any traffic past so we could enjoy the party!)
Whilst the tunes played, we also took part in games which included:
* Where's Wallaby - you have to pass a polo around the group, using a match stick in your mouth.
* Various puzzles
* Marker pens for hangman or drawing on the bus windows.
The actual events of the day included:
- Boulder Rocks - This was a lake where we were able to swim and jump from giant boulders. Sid....imagine a 25st man....he can do a backflip from the rocks! We all stood and watched this elegant beast as he entered the water. Totally unexpected.
- We then drove through Babinda (which means waterfall), this is the wettest town in Oz and people actually need wellies as 8-13m of rain falls a year. The local post office even has a golden wellie as a trophy.
- Saw the highest mountains in Queensland where the Adingi Aboriginal groups live. There are 25 Aboriginal languages in Oz.
- Visited Josephine falls in Wooroonooran national park. Here is the home to the rock slide. (We will try and upload a video)
- Our next stop was Millaa Millaa falls, this is a very famous spot..... Where Peter Andre filmed Mysterious Girl... How much more famous can you get?!... It's also where the Herbal Essence 'hair flick' was filmed. If you haven't seen the pictures take a look (Matt even gave it a go!)
- We then swam in one of the deepest lakes in Oz - Lake Eacham is a volcanic crater, which is 65m deep and full of turtles.
- The final stop was to visit the home of a platypus family. Sid described the platypus just like him.... They have to eat their weight in food within 24hours (Char thought this also described Matt!)
Such a funny day!!
