After our last night in the campervan we packed our bags and set off to Aukland. We had booked a night in a hotel in Aukland so we could see a bit of the city. We dropped our bags at the hotel before going on to drop off the van near the airport. We could see the harbour this time when we crossed the bridge, although it was a bit cloudy. It was quite sad to leave our campervan that had travelled 4,000 km. through a lot of windy roads and up lots of hills and taken us to some great places.
We got a taxi back into the city which we shared with a German couple. They were going on the cruise ship which was in the harbour and cruising to Australia for Christmas.
We spent a while admiring all the lovely yachts in the harbour and then decided to see the city from the Skytower. The awesome view from the top makes you appreciate how much of the city is surrounded by water and volcanoes, apparently there are eight of them in the city. There was the option of walking around the outside rim of the skytower or even jumping off the skytower but we were quite happy with the view from the inside and the glass floor sections were scary enough.
Our hotel is quite central and it was nice to have a few luxuries like an en suite bathroom but I think we might find it noisy after a month of peaceful campsites. We have an very early start tomorrow as we are going to Fiji on the way home. I still find it difficult to believe this time next week I will be back at work but of course that is not a concern for Graham!
