The long sandy beach was nice and flat for the morning run but I am not feeling very fit. I think I will be struggling next week at Witney Road Runners. We left the quiet little campsite to go back to Mangawhai Heads which we had visited in the torrential rain a few days ago. It was a lovely spot and quite a few people bodyboarding which is the first place we had seen much body boarding going on. A walk along the beach and black clouds began to build and yes it started to rain, but it was just a quick shower.
We stopped at the town of Warkworth for lunch, where I decided to get a quick haircut. The hairdresser was from Croydon and comes to NZ or Australia in October and goes back to England in the summer. He has a house here and a flat in Sydney and I believe a place n Croydon. I didn't know hairdressing pays so well! It was a lot cheaper to get a haircut here than at home. We were going further down the coast nearer to Aukland for our last night in the campervan but he recommended the nearby place of Sandspit.
We arrived at this campsite quite early so we managed to get a prime location right on the beach and claim the table and benches. This campsite might compete with last night's contender for best campsite. It has a very smart brand new kitchen and toilet block that I think have only just been finished. It is quite quirky as various buildings are made out to be like an old mining town and it has lots of facilities like free use of canoes (except the tide went out as soon as we got here) and pitch and putt which we played. There are also giant chess and giant snakes and ladders so no excuse for getting bored.
