It was nice to stay in one place for a day. As Picton is the ferry terminal most people don't stay here very long but I can assure you it's not anything like Dover or Southampton, it has palm fringed beach front gardens and a picturesque yacht harbour. We wondered into town and managed to find a free wifi spot so Graham could do some geocaches on our walk also managed to FaceTime Sarah and Duncan while they were at a party!
We decided to do the planned walk to The Snout (which is a point at the end of a peninsular with lovely views of the Marlborough Sounds ) before doing the crazy golf and museum in Picton. Unfortunately by the time we got back in mid afternoon both crazy golf and museum were shut so we had an ice cream instead.
We returned to our campsite and as it was our farewell to the South Island we went out for dinner down by the harbour. We were amazed to find a party of people there for Christmas dinner. It just seemed a bit strange we were sitting eating outside at 7 pm enjoying the evening sunshine and they were inside with crackers and paper hats! The other highlight at the restaurant was the awesome cheesecake. Baked lemon cheesecake with berry coulis. The best of all time, according to Graham!
We really love this spot but we have liked all the South Island and the weather has been amazing , so I hope the North Island is going to be as good.
