We survived the night and apart from two tent people who arrived in the dark and were gone early in the morning, there were no other strange happenings. Low mist and cloud spoilt our views when we started our journey but soon dispelled with the heat of the sun. We are finding that we are having more stops on our journey as there always seems to be a viewpoint or something interesting to see. One of the best stops today was to watch the bungy jumping, no we didn't participate, we just enjoyed other people's adrenaline rush. We stopped at Arrowtown for lunch, this was not very far from Queenstown. It was an old mining town with really pretty old buildings that were now shops and restaurants. The museum housed a private collection of autographed items from famous people, everything from autographed guitars of Paul McCartney and other pop legends, autographed photos of loads of iconic film stars and sportspeople and even Buzz Aldrin's spacesuit. It was supposedly all genuine but didn't say who the owner was !
Anyway, onwards to Queenstown, a lot bigger than we thought, lovely lakeside location, great outdoor sports shops and really lovely botanic gardens which were so English except for the Frisby Golf Course which it housed. This is a game played by the youth of Queenstown (and being the adventure capital, there were lots of youth). The idea is to go round a course (with plenty of trees in the way) and throw your Frisby to hit a metal marker. You score just like a game of golf. It did seem a little bizarre having frisbies flying around botanical gardens, but this is Queenstown. We headed out of town for a campsite near Arthur's Point on the Shotover River where they do whitewater rafting, jet boating and lots of other adrenaline junkie things, but they had just packing up for the day so it's lucky as we don't need the adrenaline rush any more, although Graham was quite tempted to go bungy jumping ! ( I think not).
