Yesterday's sun disappeared today, so that was disappointing. We set off to finish our trip round the Coramandal Peninsular. A beach called New Chum Beach at the north of the peninsular had been recommended as one of the top beaches to see. It's remoteness is perhaps one of its big attractions. A 30 minute walk from another beach along a boulder covered headland and then a track lead to the long white sandy beach. Our only disappointment was that 3 other people had made the trip as well, being early in the morning and the tide still quite high we had to wade across a river in knee high water, we felt sure we would be the only ones there.
At quick stop in Coramandal for coffee, and then we headed down the west coast of the peninsular. It's another of these scenic drives where the road curves along the cliff edge and rock falls are quite frequent and barriers at the edge seem to be missing or look pretty ineffective bits of fencing. There wasn't many places to stop and explore on the way so we found ourselves at the town of Thames at the bottom of the peninsular. We had wondered about staying here but it wasn't very inspiring so moved on. We have ended up staying at a place called Miranda which is in the middle of nowhere so we were surprised to find the campsite quite busy. We wandered along the coast which is full of twitchers, if you did't have a set of binoculars and a camera with an enormous lens you looked out of place.
The campsite has a spa and a tennis court, so after a soak on the spa we played a bit of tennis to amuse ourselves and any onlookers. When you haven't played for a couple of years we didn't expect to be much good and the court was AstroTurf and the ball didn't bounce properly, so we had plenty of excuses, but we managed a game and Graham won.
