We planned to swim this morning but as the pool hadn't opened we found ourselves having a soak in the hot mineral pools! It wasn't much exercise but it was a good way to start the day.
We had been informed that the gondola and luge at Rotorua were better than Queenstown. So having found a good deal with bookme .com Graham thought he would give it a go. It became an exceptionally good deal when we were presented with two tickets for gondola and 4 luge rides when we had only paid for one person. So like two big kids we spent a couple of hours going up chairlifts and down luges.
Our trip to Mount Maunganui had to be diverted due to an accident on the road. Mount Maunganui is an extinct volcano which sits at the end of a peninsula with a long white beach. It is situated just outside the large city of Turanga, so being a sunny Saturday afternoon it was very busy, there was also lots going on, a surfing competition and a running race. We decided to walk partly up the volcano as the top seemed to be far, but once we started we just kept on going to the top, which did have great views.
As it was so busy we decided to move up the coast to a campsite at Waihi Beach. We enjoyed quite a lot of sunshine today but the clouds built up again as we arrived and heavy rain showers delayed our walk along the lovely beach.
