Saturday, we set off from Jodhpur at 4:30, it was still really dark! The roads were nice and quiet and the air was cool, the sunrise was really beautiful so we stopped for some photos. At some point we reached a bit of a halt in a village where a few vehicles had stopped due to a cow standing in the road, we decided we would drive round and proceed with our journey, however our bike managed to slip on some sand and we managed to go skidding straight into the holy cow that everyone else was so patiently waiting to move on its way, possibly one of the most cringe moments of our lives, we just drove off and didn't look back!! We reached Jaisalmer about 11:30, checked into a nice room, definitely with air-conditioning after our 2 previous nights of melting, all 4 of us in probably the best room we've come across so far. The bikes were dropped off for an MOT, which was part of our agreement, we took showers and relaxed, and the boys all fell asleep (can't handle this travelling malarkey!). At 16:00 the bikes were collected, nothing broken - thank God, we strolled to the fort to find a restaurant for dinner, most places were closed but we managed to find one eventually!
Sunday, we had a nice lie in then found somewhere for a Indian breakfast, one we actually all enjoyed! The boys went for another stroll around the fort for a few hours whilst Laura relaxed in the hotel. At 15:00, the 4 of us and 2 Brazilians, took a Jeep out into the desert and visited a ghost town - once the Kuldhara village, it has been empty 200 years since the people were harassed by the ruler and were paying huge amounts of money in the form of taxes, the ruler set his eyes on one of the girls in the community and were given no choice in the matter and had just a day to accept his proposal, overcome by remorse and in desperation, the entire community left their homes cursing the king and escaped in the death of the night. We got to our guides village where we hopped on our camels, Bens called Derek and Lauras called Vivien, and rode for 2 hours into the dunes. By time we reached our camp it was sunset, we stood on the dunes and took photos then set down for a lovely meal, we think it's the best we've had! It got dark rather fast and the view of the stars was amazing and we spotted lots of satellites. In the distance you could see some lights and we were told that was the border to Pakistan, 50 kilometres away, Junior the Brazilian guy told us he went to the border to watch the change of guards and it was absolutely mental, apparently there is a lot of yelling of abuse between the 2 countries!!! We put our bed matts out and led looking at the stars until we fell asleep, it got rather windy in the night and a bit chilly so good job they gave us a big blanket!
Monday, we woke at 6:00, for sunrise, absolutely covered in sand!! We ate a good breakfast then hopped on our camels, it was difficult to remember which Camel was ours and Laura was rather shocked we she realised Vivien had a willy! It was an hour ride back to the village then we got the Jeep back to our hotel... Desperate for showers! We all freshened up and relaxed then went for lunch, after we spent the rest of the afternoon lazing around before our tummies rumbled again and we went for dinner.
