After a few days by the pool we decided to go out today!
We waited until the afternoon to rent a moped and started with a drive out to the war museum. This was really interesting, and we started by walking around looking at all the old tanks and guns by ourselves before going to leave. As we were walking out someone called us over and said there was a tour starting if we were interested. We figured we might as well even though we had already looked around, and it was so worth it! The guy taking the tour had survived the genocide and gone on to fight in the subsequent wars. He was a really interesting person with a great sense of humour who gave background to the things we had seen. We picked up the book written about him on the way out, realising that he guy who had told us about the tour was the one who had written the book!
From here we drove back out to Angkor Wat to use the last day on our ticket. We arrived at about half four, so just in time for the sunset! We started by going inside to the temple in the centre, which we made just in time before it closed! This gave you amazing views from above of the whole of the temple and surrounding areas, as well as the start of the sunset. We walked back around the outside of the building heading back towards the lake where we watched most of the rest of the sunset. We decided to head back while the sun was just setting so we could get some pictures from other angles and so we had a bit more light to drive back in!
We don't have anything planned tonight, so are just going to see what happens!
