There were 7 of us in total who came to Cape Tribulation- me, Adam, Jake, Yahn (a German; I'm sure that's not how you spell it, but that's how its pronounced) Tom, Charlie and Natalie (all from Bedford, although Tom and Charlie didn't know Natalie until they met in Melbourne). We had a stop at one of the lookouts, and then stopped by Smithfield shopping centre for supplies. Jake kind of took control of getting the food, and didn't ask everyone whether it was OK to get steak (I probably wouldn't have agreed to have it if he had of asked). I can't complain too much though as it was quite tasty when he cooked it for us later.
I think had Mum been in the car, she would have probably reminded Jake that he had precious cargo (i.e. me)- his driving was very fast, which was very scary when we were going round windy corners with steep cliff edges. We could have done with going a bit slower to take in the breath-taking ocean views.
We had to cross a river on one of the car ferries, like they have in Cornwall. I can't imagine the different rivers are easily distinguishable, but it did look very much like the one me, Mum, Dad and Sam went down on our crocodile (/mangrove) cruise.
We stopped at a creek I'm pretty sure was called Blue Hole- I think this is so called because there are minerals in the water that make it look more blue than it would be otherwise. Some of the guys had 'go pro' cameras which are waterproof, so they could take underwater videos and jump in with it. The water was very clear, but I didn't want to go under wearing my contacts, and no-one saw turtles as was promised by Jake anyway, although it did sound quite fun swimming under the log that was in the middle of it. It was more secluded than Babinda Boulders, and so there was more of a lush green rainforest to gaze up at whilst swimming… Very relaxing!
Jake had been a chef at P.K's Jungle Village, so he parked the van there, and then took us for a walk to the beach. We scrambled up some rocks to get another amazing view, although again, there were no signs of any turtles as was promised (Alice has said before she thinks we're both destined to not see any, as everywhere we're told we will see some, we haven't been so lucky).
When we got back to the car, Jake realised he didn't have the key on him, so turned back round to try and find them. Charlie and Tom followed soon after, but both parties had no luck in finding them. Luckily Adam and Yahn weren't put off by their failures, and went back to where Jake had jumped up and down upon seeing his friend- it was just in time as the sun was about to set and so it would have been too dark to find them any later, and by next morning the sea might have come in and swept them away!
Me and Natalie prepared the salad, whilst Jake cooked the steak (I'm a poet and didn't even know it) in the jungle village's kitchen, which we then brought down to the beach, where the other boys had made a fire and a shelter. I was quite surprised at how a few palm leaves over a few trees could protect 8 people (including Jake's friend who he had jumped up and down for), although admittedly it was only a light shower. The stars were amazingly bright.
