Leaving Laura was emotional, after living with her for 5 weeks it's gonna be strange living the hippy life again! Waiting at Brisbane bus station, she did her usual job of looking out for cool people who may be on my bus!!! As we walked out to meet the bus, I was personally greeted by the driver who informed me he was my 'b****' for the day as I was his only passenger as everyone's moving north rather than south which is strange as it's currently the wet season up there!!!
We crossed the Queensland/New South Wales boarder and I'm now 11 hours in front of the uk! After a 4 hour journey we arrived in Byron bay, the land of bongs, thongs and sarongs!!! A complete contrast to surfers paradise' high ride buildings, byrons council have spent millions and have successfully kept mcdonalds out!!! The main street is in keeping with how a cosy little beach bay should be, with loads of surf shacks and backpackers hostels, this is the place where people arrive and never want to leave! Think I'll stay here a while! Originally put on the map when Paul hogan, crocodile Dundee bought a pad here on the beach, Byron has it all!
To top things off, I've managed to bag a bottom bunk next to the electrical socket (these small things actually mean a lot to a traveller). I'm sharing with two Canadian girls and an Australian lad but I think he leaves today!
After 7 weeks on the goon, I treated myself to a bottle of smirnoff and redbull!!! The set up of the hostel is really good with all the rooms surrounding the pool and huge communal benches so it's like one big family! It was ladies night at cheeky monkeys so two girls from Leicester and some Aussie lads and I went across the road for a night of dancing on the tables!
Frajyer, a fellow groom I met in Perth is also in Byron so I'll try and catch up with her! Just kicked tge germans ass at basketball!!! Now off to the local Market today with the Leicester girls!!!
