Today we drove from Atherton to down to the East coast above Cairns. We stayed at a small caravan park on the beach called Wonga Beach. After we set up Will and Jack went for a run on the beach. After that we all went for a walk along the beach and Will and I collected soooooo many hermit crabs. When we got back we played with the kids next door that had been on the road for 3 years.
Daintree
Today we woke up early and drove into the rain forest. We got to go on a car ferry across the Daintree River to the Daintree rainforest.
When we got to discovery centre we paid then we went on the paths and listened to our information remotes. We learned about the plants and animals such as, cassowaries eat fruit and poo out the seeds and the seeds then grow more trees. The rainforest looked like a different world, it was so green. The rainforest had lots of very tall trees that had things growing all over them like vines and other plants. Some of the trees had leaves that made you get a nasty rash and some could sting you badly enough to last weeks. Some of the plants haven’t changed for millions of years.
Did you know; the Daintree rainforest is the oldest living rainforest in the world.
Later we all went for two walks. The first walk took us through the rainforest and the other led us to the beach. We also got to see the plants and animals that we learned about at the discovery centre on the walks. After that we drove to an ice-cream shop. The shop was different to others because you could not pick your own flavour. So they chose four flavours of the day made from exotic fruits grown in their own orchard. They were; coconut, yellow sapote, wattle seed and Davidsons Plum. Wattle seed was my favourite because it tasted like iced-coffee.
Then we went on a looooooooong drive on a steep windy road to a big waterfall. We were about to go on the ferry again until we saw a cassowary and his chick crossing the road. We were so excited to see one in the wild.

Nannette and Poppy Den You have learnt so much since you have been on this trip, haven't you! Wow the family that have been on the road for three years, did they have lots of stories to tell and had they been to the same places as you??
