Kya Travels
I woke up this morning a little too late to Skype the family, so had a quick Facebook chat with them for a while instead, then went back to sleep for a bit. I woke up (or really, Darren woke me up!) at about 1:30, got a shower and got ready then headed to the common room with Darren where we had a chat and shared some wine with an Italian and Belgian guy. We didn't wake up to a white Christmas this year, but we got something almost as rare: sunshine! Not long later, Christmas lunch was served up, which was a little average, a couple of meats, roast veg and brussels sprouts. So pretty average for a vego, especially compared with the amazing feasts I've become accustomed to on Christmas Day! But oh well. Dessert was delicious at least. After more chats and wine with those guys, the guitar came out, and Darren had a bit of a jam with a girl who played the flute, which was pretty cool. Another guitarist got the guitar from reception and I got our other guitar, and we all jammed along together for a while. We were joined by the other guitarists friend who played harmonica, then after a little bit, we left the circle, as we weren't really in a jamming mood. So we chilled out a while on the couch with some Americans and a German girl, and helped one of the Americans make a plan for her few days in London, while listening to an American guy and the German girl having a political discussion. (Great Christmas conversation!) Darren tried to lighten the mood with a few jokes, which went right over their heads, then after a bit mum and dad were awake, so I went to get the iPad to Skype them for a bit. It was good to see them, but it didn't make it feel much more like Christmas! After a while hanging out there and drinking some wine and Guinness, the two of us went for a walk to get some pizza for dinner from what was apparently the only open place in town, Apache. But when we got there, there were two convenience stores open, Centra and Spar, so we had a look through them, then ended up getting cheaper pizza from Centra. We ate half of them there then took the other half back to the hostel for tomorrow. We watched a Christmas movie, Fred Claus, in the common room, then headed up to bed, where we had some of the chocolates that we had bought ourselves from Santa in bed before going to sleep.
