Kya Travels
We woke up this morning (afternoon) and had an amazing shower, one of the best of the whole trip, and got ready before heading out. We grabbed some subway again and ate on the steps in the Temple Bar square. After lunch we walked down the road to find the music shop, Walton's, which is where the movie Once was filmed. We browsed for a while and were going to get our guitar restrung, as we'd snapped a string, but they were too busy, leading up to the Christmas period, and weren't doing any restringing until the new year. So we headed up the street to another place, Some Neck Guitars, but they were too busy to do it as well, until Monday, when we would be leaving, so we doubled back and went to another place called Dublin Guitar World. I had a strum of a little ukelele for a while, (which sounded very nice!) as Darren showed off the guitar to one of the workers. The guy there was really nice and gave us a free E string to put on it, but he didn't want to tune it up, because he wasn't sure about the whole 'steel strings on a nylon guitar' situation, and didn't want to be the one to snap the neck or something! So we thanked him and went across the road to another shop called Music Maker just for a browse, and I gave Darren a 12-string guitar to have a play of, as they had come up in conversation a few times recently. And it sounded beautiful. It was love at first play. We stayed there for ages just playing it, but it was expensive and we were poor. We got the guy down to €200, but there was really no way we could afford it with our budget! So after hanging around in the store for probably a couple of hours, we finally said goodbye to the beautiful guitar and headed off. We went down to the Old Storehouse to share a Guinness while we used their wifi, as the wifi in the hostel was really ****. I did a bit of budget calculations and did a bit of research into what we had left in the trip that we had to pay for, but no matter which way I looked at it, I couldn't squeeze an extra €200 anywhere! After a bit of research and organisation there, we headed off and went to a little mini supermarket/takeaway place called Centra, where we bought an 8-pack of Guinness cans and a €5 pizza each, to keep our drinking costs down, as its super expensive to drink in Dublin - about 5-6 euros for a pint!! We headed back down to the hostel and hung out in the common room for a while eating our pizza and drinking a Guinness, then hung out in the room for a while wifi-ing and chilling until we headed out again later on and went back to the Old Storehouse. We met up with Andy and Isa again, and shared some Guinness's and watched the band again. It was the same band, but there was a different guy on guitar and vocals. It was still very cool though. Through the night there were two massive groups of pub crawlers that came through the place, and they were all from Malta! It was actually crazy, they were so excited. The first group especially kept bursting into song, with or without the band, and were generally just an extremely rowdy bunch! The second group were a bit more chilled, but more fun as well, and got up for a bit of a dance. Darren did some Irish/Maltese/Aussie dancing with one of the girls, Aimee, who also explained to us what one of the songs all the pub-crawlers kept chanting translated to, which was something religious. Over the night we snuck outside a few times to refill our glasses with a couple of cans of Guinness we'd snuck in in my jacket pockets! (So not cheapskates!) When the band finished, we finished our drinks while chatting with the Germans, (who were awesome by the way) about music, Dublin and everything, then when we were done we headed out, said goodbye and headed back to the hostel. We had our leftover pizzas and another drink in the common room then something amazing happened... We remembered Darren's salary packaging card. Which has money on it. Guitar money........!!??????!? Maybe....... Then we headed to bed.
