Mixed it up a little bit on this fine Tuesday and had an awesome day. My wandering took me to some new parts of the city to visit two separate university campuses and then to the National Gallery of Victoria.
My first stobe was at the La Trobe University city campus. This is where a bunch of grad students work from and occasionally the group from the research centre that I am working with. I needed to meet with them today so that took me down into the CBD for the morning.
After our chat I headed out an had a wicked coffee at a quirkly little shop called Brother Baba Budan. The shop was small but the coffee was strong and the vibes were super cool.
Next I headed out to Burwood in the eastern suburbs of the city to meet with a professor from Deakin University to talk shop. The meeting turned out to be a lot less talking that I had hoped and ended pretty quickly so I had some more free time in the afternoon than I had expected.
With that spare time I decided to check out the National Gallery of Victoria. There is an exhibit on featuring work by Andy Warhol and Ai Wei Wei. The exhibit is only on until this weekend and I had been meaning to check it out, so this was the perfect opportunity. The museum was very cool and these two artists' works were pretty fascinating. Each of them tackled some really interesting themes in their respective times and the exhibit portrayed and explained it in a really cool and interactive way.
After my artsy experience, I capped off my fun and highly educational day by meeting a friend for a pint on a rooftop patio and watching the sun set over the awesome Melbourne Cityscape. Not a bad gig at all.
Stay weird, and be artsy sometimes...its cool.
