To cap off my last weekend in Melbourne, the crew from La Trobe took me out to experience Aussie Rules Football at the Melbourne Crocket Ground. Such an awesome Sunday activity!
We watched the Western Bulldogs take on the Collingwood Magpies. Since I had to pick I team, I signed on to support The Pies. They have a dodgy reputation and everyone I talk to seems to dislike them, so I decided they were my kind of team!
It was an interesting game. I thought it was quite exciting, but the general feedback was that it wasn't the best game of the year as it was fairly low scoring and scrappy. Collingwood led the first three quarters but had some injuries and the Bulldogs ended up coming back to take it 74-53. Also got to enjoy my first Australian stadium beer and meat pie - a must.
As a bonus, Sunday's at the G are family day so we got to go right down on the turf after the game. It was super cool. There were so many people down there passing footies and snapping pictures - a very exciting time!
After the game, a few of us strolled downtown and had dumplings and ice cream. It was an awesome way to say goodbye and have a little fun on my way out.
Monday was all about cleaning my stuff out of the office and Tuesday was about laundry, packing, and one last visit to the city - including a visit to the ACMI! Now I'm ready to roll and catch my early flight back to the northern hemisphere.
Hold on Canada, I'm almost there!
