Norway - day ten (Sunday)
Firstly apologise for not posting last night. We drove 450km and arrived at Sofie's place quite tired. After catching up, Andrew and I both fell asleep without showers.
Today Sofie took us around Oslo. We had a 24hr public transport ticket so we were on the bus, then a train or a tram or a ferry all without skipping a beat. It was nice having someone who was able to read and speak the language.
First off we headed to the ski jump. Holmenkollen is the only steel ski jump in the world and it towers 60m off the ground. It is quite impressive. Because it is summer they had a giant flying fox set up the ran from the top down to a platform where the skiers would come to a stop. For 590NOK one could take a ride....be we thought $120 was a little excessive (plus the actual fee to get up the tower).
From there we headed to Frogner Park. A park with hundreds of statues of people all portraying the circle of life. It was quite amazing and all the ideas of one man. He had craftsmen who helped create the sculptures.
Probably the highlight of my day was the Viking museum. 3 Viking ships and various other artefacts that have been found in burial grounds in Norway are all housed in the museum. It was quite spectacular. The Vikings buried people on ships and then created mounds over them. Seeing the size of these ships it is amazing.
Our last stop was the kon-tiki museum. Andrew and I decided not to go through so we waited outside while mum, dad and Sofie went through. We have just now finished watching a movie (in Norwegian...lol) that they've made about it. It was interesting, even though we couldn't understand a lot of it.
Well, we are all very tired so I'm going to leave it there.
Night all
