Norway - day four
It is cold!!!
7pm, 12 degrees and dropping.
The accompanying photo is of the view from our 4m x 3m cabin (small for 4 adults but it will be warm). We just finished dinner sitting on the little veranda overlooking the turquoise lake and the clouds blanketing the valley. It is very beautiful.
I kept myself warm by putting my travel mug in my pocket. Loving T2 mugs. They don't leak. But I've finished my tea now so have headed inside where it is warmer.
We have had an exciting day. This morning we went for a scenic train ride that left from Flam. It was an hour each way and had some very picturesque scenes. From there we drove some amazing roads. One, my favourite took us 1315m above sea level (9 degrees up there too). The way up was hair raising as each stretch dropped away at the side and no guard rails. It was amazing how much the scenery changed the further we got up. We started with fir trees and wild flowers then it became mosses and lichens and small flowers scattered. The further up we went the rockier it got. The top still had snow and Andrew and I made a mad dash to the snow and grabbed some.
We paused for a hot chocolate and to warm ourselves up before starting the long windy journey down. The road was very narrow and Andrew did a fantastic job navigating around vehicles with minimal space.
At the bottom we headed off in search of The Borgund Stave Church. It was most impressive and exciting to see our first real Viking building, and the most original stave church.
A ferry across the fjord and a short (1hr) trip and we found our accommodation.
We are about to head up for our showers...in a shower block so don't want it to get much colder.
Till tomorrow.
