Volklingen, Germany (17th August) It has been a very special birthday and an interesting one also. Our hotel last night was very nice, until we got into the shower. The water was icy cold. On route for Birthday (16th August) We had a lovely lazy morning this morning. We slept in until 8am and left just before 10, stopping at a grocery store on the way to buy some essentials - bread, milk, chocolate biscuits and Danish pastries... Berlin day two Today was much better than yesterday. We set off, aiming for the Reichstag, a glass viewing dome on top of the parliament building. But the security checks were taking a minimum of 5mins per person and judging by the length of the queue we thought we'd be waiting for hours so we decided to head back to the Holocaust Memorial to go through the visitors centre. it is built in a WW2 bunker underneath the memorial. Berlin Construction, traffic and smokers... I have to say I am not enjoying Berlin as much as I have the other towns. Our hop on hop off bus was rather disappointing and trying to navigate around was really difficult. The train station Banhauf, was pretty spectacular with trains moving over your head and stairs going every which way. 53 escalators, 13 glass lifts and I don't know how many levels of train tracks, 2 or 3. Saxon Switzerland Can I start off by saying....WOW WOW WOW!!!!!!! We visited Saxon Switzerland today. We began by visiting Festung Konigstein, or Konigstein Fortress. The castle dated back to the 15th Century and the views were spectacular!
