Kevin and Joannie on tour
Whilst Joan showered Kevin went in search of bread and cheese for breakfast. The internet in the flat was very slow and we couldn't upload photos. We had tried to contact the owner to see if we could leave our cases till the afternoon but she did not respond.
After breakfast we went for a walk up to the funicular railway station. Barrio Bellavista is the Boho area of Santiago with lots of restaurants, bars and clubs. Then we walked down from Plaza Balcemeda to the Mercado Centrale through the Parque Forestal. There's a lot of random sculptures there. Mainly gifts, some were better than others. Sadly there were quite a lot of rough sleepers and the streets seemed more littered and had more graffiti than we remembered. Still it is a friendly place. Last time we came in 2007 we remember a monument near the market being inhabited by lots and lots of cats. Today we saw a lone puss. We'd like to think the cats who lived there have been found good homes.
Having left our cases with the concierge, we ate at a restaurant nearby where there was an unusual horselike water feature. We then took a taxi to the airport where we were early once again.
The evening flight to Easter Island meant we didn't arrive till the middle of the night. It took 6 hours and is two hours behind mainland Chile and six hours behind the UK. We were met with flower necklaces and transported to our charming cabin on stilts. The evening was warm and we sat out for a while to relax before going to sleep.
