Friday 21st August - St Andrews
We had our breakfast in the loveliest dining room, high ceilings, plaster cornices, big windows and lovely tables. We spoke with a couple and their two daughters who were from Catalonia who were on holiday for 2 weeks.
We walked down to our car and headed out of town after talking to Stu & Chris and then Mike and the girls. Lucy is home for a week. We had rung Jin and arranged to meet at the Westport Gate at 10.30am. We found a park that enabled us to park for longer than an hour and walked off to where we thought the Westport Gate ought to be and arrived at just after the allotted time and there was Jim. So lovely to see him and he looked so good.
After we had had our hugs Jim told us that he had planned to take us on a walking tour of the town. St Andrews has aboutn15000 people and another 8000 students so is not a huge place and really has 3.5 streets. North Street, South Street, Market Street and Half Street and we were to head down each of these.
We first headed to the ruined Cathedral and then down to the Harbour and break water. It was very windy and cold enough that we put on our coats. The Harbour basin is tiny and mainly used by fishing boats. We walked up South Street and Jim took us to his favourite coffee shop and on the window was a sign "Where Kate met Will - for coffee"
We had coffee and scones and then headed off to see the Castle also a ruin and we could see out into the North Sea.
