Sunday 16th August - Whitby to Keswick It was a beautiful day in Whitby when we left and the 2.5 hour drive was pretty uneventful until we got within about 12 miles of Keswick. Then we got into a queue of cars that were held up at a round a bout that had traffic lights controlling the flow or not of vehicles. Saturday 16th August - Dinner We decided to get away from the pub scene and opted for dinner at The Fishermans 2nd Wife which is situated above the West Beach. We had a lovely table looking out at the beach. The tide had been in and now was on its way out. Earlier today we had seen the beach with the tide out and the beach was about 80-100metres wide. Saturday 15th August - West Beach We fought our way through the crowds to get to the opposite end of the harbour basin. We had to climb the cliffs via a set of stairs those going up on the left those coming down to our right. At the top was a whole carnival atmosphere with all sorts of side shows, all well patronised all seeming to have minions as prizes. We walked all the way along the clifftop to the lift that went down to the beach but no we didn't go...

Saturday 15th August - Lunch and Walk We got a ticket on our car because the parking due to the five day regatta was restricted in some areas and as you can guess we parked in a restricted area. Well we shifted the car to a new spot alongside other cars with the same tokens in their windows. We walked away from the harbour to look for a pub that is not so crowded. Saturday 15th August - The Shambles We walked down the 199 steps to get ourselves down from the top of the cliffs and into the narrow lanes called The Shambles. Lots of shops selling souvenirs and in particular "Jet" which is this black stone that is the result of Monkey Puzzle trees being felled when the trees were cut down to make meadow and pasture and the logs ended up in the swamp and over time became petrified and thus now made into jewellery.
