Thursday 20th August - Carlyle to Dundee
We started off early as we had about a 3.5 hour drive. Jannie set the satnav "Mary" and off we went up the motorway towards Glasgow. Not very far up the motorway we came to a sign "Welcome to Scotland". We drove on this motorway for more than an hour and stopped at a Motorway Refreshment stop for a cup of coffee at Costa. This was after the screen on our car beeped and said "Time for a refreshment stop". On we went and had a bit of a mix up at one of the motorway off ramps because there was a heap of roadworks and we got off to early. Through traffic lights and eventually we hooked up with the right motorway again and on we went.
We crossed the Firth of Forth over a long bridge and then we got onto a secondary road heading toward St Andrews and Dundee and drove for miles through fields of wheat. There are fields only about 3 miles outside Dundee. We then crossed the River Tay over a very long bridge and ended up right in downtown Dundee. We had been told that Dundee was spending a billion pounds on refurbishment of the port and downtown area and so it seems they are cause we were in a traffic system that is all new. So new in fact that only one of the three lanes was able to be used. Mary was having a fit because of the new road layout. Seems that Dundee has a mostly one way system but we got to our B&B accommodation down a one way street that is barely wider than the car and double yellow lines on both sides of the road.
Our room is lovely and on the first floor and Amy welcomed us like long lost friends. She got Kevin to take our bags to our room and sorted us out with a map and directions.
We spoke to Jim and have organised to go to St Andrews tomorrow and catch up.
