Today was a day of funny signs. Crying tortoises, falling bunnies (easily mistaken for an obese pink man falling over), and a girl being kicked up the backside by a hiker in a sailor suit. Quite hilarious.
We started the day with a peaceful walk in the bush near our camp. Consulted Google to determine there are no bears, snakes or foxes on the island. Just the bothersome crows but also plenty of other bird life.
That filled in the morning so we stopped in at a noodle house after we had packed up. Always interesting trying to order. Google translate doesn't seem to handle menus very well and I can interpret a little (the things I know) so it's a bit of point and hope when you want to try something new (which Shane does!).
After re-fuelling we took off up the hill to join the cycle trail again. This end was not as scenic as the other end. It joined the road at points for a while and it also had lots of barriers to stop cars etc getting through. They weren't quite wide enough for the buggy so we were awkwardly lifting it over until some construction men noticed and showed us how to make them cleverly disappear. A handy tip for next time! They must have thought we were a bit special.
Stopped and found some pretty purple flowers and some great views of the coast. Once the cloud cleared it was also a stunning view of the mountain and it came out quite warm again.
Got back to Oshidamari Family camp (where we started three days ago) set up and collected our inner tubes from the camp manager before heading over to the onsen for a wash and to do some laundry. While we were there I discovered a great indoor pool to take Elsie to tomorrow while Shane climbs the mountain.
Got some groceries at the Seicomart (we now have a customer loyalty card and we're saving points to earn our camp mug!) and whipped up some beef and rice with salad for tea.
Elsie has been a challenge to get off to bed these last four nights - she's definitely testing the limits a bit (and ruining my peaceful evenings). Remind me never to take it for granted again when we simply put her down to bed and she goes to sleep.
Anyway, she seems quiet now. I have my wine, it's a lovely balmy evening. There's a beautiful view of the mountain and the ocean. Here's to another lovely day.
