Drizzling again this morning and a bit persistent today. We had planned on freedom camping a bit further up the coast but we stopped at Teshio (only 20 kms up the road) for the onsen and to do some much needed laundry. Communicating is still a bit funny at times, even with the Google Translate app. We asked at the last town if there was a coin laundry and they said no but that there is one here in Teshio. When we got to the onsen we asked if they have a washer and dryer (as some do) and we were told there are nine facilities with washers but no dryers. Then we asked someone else and they said there is no coin laundry in town either.
Finally we asked someone who spoke a bit more English and he let us use a washer at the onsen that appeared to have a dryer built in. We set it going and went off for our spa. Checked in on it later and it still wasn't dry so we hung around the onsen relaxing, playing with toys and having some lunch (the weather was still not great so we were in no hurry).
In the meantime we decided to go and stay at a cabin at the camp in front of the onsen (yay for some space and shelter from the wind). But the washing still wasn't dry, so I asked the man again and he said we couldn't dry clothes there but pointed out on a map the location of a coin laundry (yes, there is one after all). So we figured we would go there. But when we went to check in at the camp we discovered they have washers and dryers anyway.
So that was the big mission for the day, getting our clothes clean and dry. And now we are drying out the tent and all our other gear in the cabin. The cabin is basic but great for a change (costs about $45). Elsie enjoyed the playground (despite it being old and rusty), the really long roller slide and the walk around the lake.
Cooked up our tofu, vege curry again for tea. Time to relax. May try and push all the way through to Wakkanai tomorrow (70km). Would be a big day but there are no more camps on the way and there's a strong tailwind forecast which could help us along. Will see how well we all sleep I guess.
